Haiti Political Crisis Update

One thing that has long been true throughout history, is Haitians are resilient people. It’s not the first time they’ve needed to rise up through rubble, sometimes figuratively and other times literally. But they’re a proud and capable population of people, who want to see Haiti thriving. Haitians want to and will have to do it their own way. What works in Haiti is “Haitian-run, with external support”.

That’s what we aim to be at the Fond Blanc Foundation. Since 2016, we’ve been exclusively staffed in Haiti by Haitians. We provide financial support to allow Haitians to teach, train, cultivate and care for the next generation.

Unfortunately, as all of this rapidly changing news comes out of Haiti, none of it is unified. We don’t know what the next moves are going to be, and we don’t know what the Haitian populace wants. We have Haitian friends on the ground who say one thing, Haitian influencers on social media who say another; and the news casts something entirely different.

We have always strived to walk alongside Pastor Jean Claude, allowing the decision making to be from the boots on the ground. His insight, wisdom and fortitude has seen the expansion of his school, allowing those fleeing violence to have a safe space to land. In addition, the development of the farm has provided much needed resources for the children.

Being outsiders looking in can be challenging. We’re used to being able to control situations, either with money or military, but those are not options here. We can support. We can encourage. We can pray.

Pray for peace in the country. Pray for humanitarian support for the Haitians in dire need. Pray for wisdom and guidance for the decision makers determining what comes next for Haiti.

We will continue to rejoice in the safety of those in these mountain villages and mourn and pray for those suffering within the city. And we will continue to ask for your support, both financially and prayerfully.  With unprecedented costs and significant stretches of time between safe opportunities to obtain food and other goods, we have had to change our financial plans to adapt to these differences and continue to meet the needs of the children in Fond Blanc. Any additional support you can provide would be greatly appreciated. You can donate at the link below.
