Bonjour from Madison, Wisconsin and Fond Blanc, Haiti!
As many of you have seen in the news, the situation in Haiti has become increasingly volatile. Gang activity in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas has reached unprecedented levels, with criminal groups gaining control over roads, schools, hospitals, and key infrastructure. While instability is not new to Haiti, the scale and intensity of recent months is unlike anything the country has experienced in decades.
We want to take a moment to clarify a few things—particularly for those who may have questions or concerns about the safety of the children and community in Fond Blanc.
First and most importantly: Fond Blanc remains safe and peaceful.
Thanks to its remote mountain location—far from the epicenter of unrest—our village has been insulated from the violence. The children are in school, tending to the gardens and chickens, playing soccer, and enjoying life. We are incredibly grateful to report this, as so many across the country cannot say the same.
You may have noticed that we’ve been quieter than usual in recent months. This is not by accident. In fact, it’s an important part of how we’re keeping our community safe.
In the current climate, visibility can attract unwanted attention. NGOs, churches, and mission-based organizations have increasingly become targets for gang affiliates looking for resources, influence, or leverage. For this reason, we are deliberately keeping a lower profile in public and online spaces. We know this may feel like silence to our loyal supporters, but please know this strategy is rooted in wisdom and concern for everyone on the ground. We remain deeply connected to the work—and your continued support is as critical as ever.
Here’s a quick refresher about how the Fond Blanc Foundation operates:
-We are a 100% volunteer-run U.S.-based nonprofit organization.
-We are an independent NGO, meaning we are not affiliated with or funded by the Haitian government.
-Every dollar you give goes directly to our programs in Fond Blanc—supporting the school, food, gardens, chickens, staff, and children living on-site.
-While the gangs have not reached Fond Blanc, the effects of their control are still felt—especially in the form of skyrocketing food and supply costs, which have increased by as much as 700%. This makes your continued generosity even more impactful.
We also proudly stand beside the Zachary Family and their Cazale Clinic, who continue to provide lifesaving medical care in the mountains. Their work is heroic, and we are honored to support them.
We will continue to move forward with faith, wisdom, humility, and caution—doing everything we can to protect those we serve while keeping you informed in the most appropriate ways.
Please continue to keep Haiti in your thoughts and prayers. Your belief in this mission means more than ever.
With gratitude,
The Fond Blanc Foundation Team
